Liverpool star Mohamed Salah doesn’t want to be ‘selfish’ regarding his contract situation
According to Sky Sports, when asked about his current contract situation, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah suggested he doesn’t want to be ‘selfish’ and talk about his own status when the team is fighting for titles in major competitions.
The Egyptian’s current contract is set to expire in 2023. Even though both parties have shown interest in a renewal, no agreement has been reached between them despite lengthy talks.
The conversations between Liverpool and Salah’s entourage are still ongoing, and it is believed that the Egyptian star is close to agreeing on a deal that would keep him with the club until the end of his career. However, speculation will continue to exist until he officially comes to a decision.
When Sky Sports raised the same issue again in front of the 29-year-old forward, Salah suggested that he doesn’t want to talk about his ongoing renewal drama when there is much to discuss on the team’s performance.
“I can’t be selfish and talk about my situation. We are in the most important period for the team, so I have to just talk about the team, focus on what is coming with the team, and that is the most important thing.”
The Premier League’s highest scorer gave a vague reply when asked how confident he is about staying with the club exceeding his current contract. He went on to call it a sensitive situation.
“I can’t say yes, I can’t say no, but I have said many times before about what I want. But again, I can’t go deep into my contract now because it is a really sensitive situation.”
In the last few months, Liverpool have worked hard and decreased the gap between them and league leaders Manchester City in the Premier League. The Reds are set to take on Pep Guardiola’s team tomorrow, which will probably be the title decider with eight matches left.
Liverpool won the League Cup in February this year. Still in with a shout for the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup, Jurgen Klopp’s team still has the chance to complete a significant title haul this term.

As one of Liverpool’s top stars, the pressure on Salah is immense. Even though his contract renewal is an important event for the club and its fans, the coming games could significantly impact his decision.
Considering the sensitivity of the event, it is understandable why the Egyptian star doesn’t want to go into details. But whatever he has said until now regarding his contract situation only reflects his urge to continue at the club.
