“Disappointed”- Klopp makes key admission ahead of crucial PL tie against Man City

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes title admission ahead of the crucial Premier League tie vs Manchester City

Speaking to reporters in the pre-match presser for the Manchester City game as quoted by The Express, Jurgen Klopp highlighted that it will be disappointing, should his side not win the Premier League this season. That being said, he also mentioned that there were other competitions to look forward to in the campaign.

The Reds are now within touching distance of the Citizens as a solitary point separates them at the top of the Premier League standings. That gap could be bridged should the Merseysiders manage to pull off a victory against Pep Guardiola’s men today at The Etihad.

This fixture could be a potential title decider given the current form of both the clubs. The Anfield outfit at one time were 14 points

behind albeit with two games in hand over Man City around mid-January. The possibility of the PL title seemed like a distant reality back then but much ahs changed now.

In a conversation ahead of the fixture against the Citizens as quoted by The Express, Klopp stated that there are a lot of competitions to play for, but not winning the league could be a disappointment in his eyes.

“If we hadn’t tried, I would be disappointed. Not winning the league will be disappointing but there are other things to go for, like other cup competitions and the Champions League. So there is a lot to go for and for those you need momentum and you need rhythm.”

Klopp has his say

The German manager has been a breath of fresh air ever since arriving at Anfield back in 2015. He has guided us to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup as well as the FIFA Club World Cup. Not to forget that he helped us bag the Premier League title in the 2019-20 campaign after a wait of nearly three decades.

After an injury-plagued time last season, the Merseysiders seem to be getting back on track once again. The club has already bagged its first major trophy of the season by defeating Chelsea to secure the EFL Cup in February.

Liverpool currently trails Manchester City by one point in the Premier League.

Klopp’s men are currently riding high and cannot put a foot wrong. They would be looking to use their momentum to notch a victory against the defending PL champions. This fixture has prime importance with respect to the title race as we head into the business end of the season.

The Citizens have at times seemed a bit lacklustre in their last few outings. Despite that, one should never write them off considering the kind of talented game-changers they have in their squad.

A quadruple can be seen on the horizon at the moment, but there is still a long way to go if we are to achieve this. The club will have to put in solid performances week in and week out with unwavering determination.

That being said, viewing our recent form there is absolutely no reason why our players cannot pull this off. It would thus be interesting to see what the latter half of the season has in store for us but defeating the Citizens should be the first priority at the moment.
