Transfer News: The cousin of Fábio Vieira confirms Liverpool interest in the Porto star
According to Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool.com), The cousin of Fábio Vieira has revealed that Liverpool have rejuvenated their interest in the Porto star.
Liverpool has been pretty active in the market in signing young players. Ibrahima Konate came in last summer followed by Luis Díaz last January. The Reds have their eyes set on another prized asset, FC Porto star Fábio Vieiraahead of the upcoming 2022 summer transfer window.
Liverpool was heavily linked with the 21-year-old last summer. However, the deal never materialised. After Fábio Vieira signed a contract extension with Porto. It was believed that the Reds’ pursuit of the attacking midfielder had cooled off.
Now, it seems the Portuguese youngster is back on Liverpool’s radar, which the player’s cousin has confirmed in a recent interview.
Mara Vieira has now revealed that Liverpool have shown interest in Fabio, and he also suggested that the Reds’ approach to finding young talents might be the reason for this pursuit.
“If Klopp has already touched on Fabio’s name, as he has done with others, it’s because, at Liverpool, they are attentive to the younger ones.”
The 21-year-old has been one of the best midfielders in the Portuguese top flight this term. His ball controlling abilities, coupled with his vision and incredible passing range has helped him set up 13 goals across all competitions for his teammates. He has also scored seven goals in 33 matches across all competitions.
Vieira is believed to be worth £43m, which is a lucrative price considering he is still young and doesn’t have Premier League experience. However, Liverpool’s approach regarding Diaz suggests that they are moving aggressively to secure such deals.
Liverpool has been very attentive in scouting young talents before getting star status. This approach has worked with several signings in the past. This might be why they are investing large amounts in new signings like Luis Díaz despite already having a stable, high performing team.
Fábio Vieira certainly ticks the boxes of a talented young talent who has been growing rapidly. Even though the Portuguese league is pretty different from the Premier League, his incredible display under different managers is proof that he is capable of adapting and fast learning.
Betting on the Portuguese would allow Liverpool to decrease pressure from Jordan Henderson, Naby Keïta and Thiago, who have featured a lot in recent months.

Fabio’s cousin’s comments suggest the Reds could push for the Porto star in the summer window. It remains to be seen how Liverpool’s approach turns out in the summer.
