“Scored four, 45 assists”- PL legend makes a bold prediction regarding Liverpool superstar

Alan Shearer has high expectations from Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold

According to BBC Sounds via Youtube (h/t Liverpool Echo), Premier League legend Alan Shearer has backed Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold to scale greater heights in his career in the coming years.

The 23-year-old is not just a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s side but is also one of the finest young players in world football. He continues to perform at an elite level and is amongst Liverpool’s most dangerous players.

The Merseysider has also reinvented the full-back’s role in modern football and has alongside Andrew Robertson formed a formidable duo for Liverpool. The best years of Alexander-Arnold’s career are still yet to come and the sky’s the limit to his potential.

Shearer, one of the greatest to ever play in the Premier League appears to think just that. He praised Trent’s ability on the dead ball and believes we could be looking at the best set-piece taker in about 10 years’ time.,

“If we sit here again in 10 years time. Then Trent, I am certain, will be number one [set piece taker].”

With 45 assists already to his name, Trent is already en route to fulfilling Shearer’s prophecy. The assist against Manchester City last Sunday saw him overtake Steven Gerrard’s tally of 16 assists in a season. It is fair to say that Trent is entering the elite territory.

“For free kicks he’s scored four, 45 assists. He’s only 23, he’s excellent. He’s brilliant.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold put up a performance for the ages against Leicester City

Shearer is not the first legend to come out in support of Trent. Dani Alves, widely considered to be amongst the finest full-backs to ever play the game, also praised the Liverpool star’s abilities.

The Englishman is young and yet is the heartbeat of this Liverpool team’s creative force. One may argue that he can work on the defensive side of his game, case in point being the game against Manchester City recently. But he still managed to grab an assist in the same match, showcasing how important he is to Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

There is a long time to go before we see the finished product but TAA is already amongst the best full-backs of his generation. To think that he can still improve and work on other aspects of his game is scary to think.

As long as the 23-year-old continues to keep his feet on the ground and continue developing, there is no reason why he cannot go on to fulfil expectations. Trent has the opportunity to write himself into football folklore. Whether he will manage to do it remains to be seen.
