Klopp addresses injury concerns regarding key Liverpool duo ahead of FA Cup semi-final

Jurgen Klopp provides fitness update on two Liverpool superstars ahead of FA Cup clash against Manchester City

According to the Liverpool Echo, Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp has given the latest fitness update on two of his superstars following the 3-3 draw against Benfica.

With games coming thick and fast and also a two-goal lead to contend with, Klopp chose to make wholesale changes to his Liverpool side on Wednesday. The Reds raced into a 3-1 lead but took the foot off the gas, handing Benfica a flattering 3-3 draw to take home.

While the tie did not impact our progress in the competition, it does flatter the Portuguese giants to an extent. If anything, the biggest setback the Reds potentially face is the injury concerns regarding Diogo Jota

and Mohamed Salah.

Jota, Liverpool’s second-highest top scorer this season started the game on the left before being taken off for Salah in the 57th minute. Speaking after the game, Klopp confirmed that the 25-year-old picked up a knock in the first half.

“Diogo got a knock in the first half.”

The German boss also addressed questions about Salah having suffered a potential knock. To the relief of Liverpool fans, he denied knowledge of it whatsoever and revealed that the Egyptian is fine.

“I don’t know about Mo. Nobody told me yet. The two physios, nobody said to me Mo has a problem.”

With the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City up next, losing either of our top two scorers would have been a massive blow. Thankfully that does not appear to be the case and the duo is expected to be available for the trip to Wembley.

“At the moment, everybody should be fine.”

The game against Man City will not be easy and it remains to be seen how Pep Guardiola’s side plays after their bruising encounter at the Wanda Metropolitano. Either way, the Merseysiders cannot afford to let their guard down.

The next few games could very well determine whether Liverpool go on to enter their names into the history books. Whisper it slowly but the quadruple is still on. With a full-strength side at his disposal, the sky is the limit for Klopp and co.
