Liverpool beat Tottenham to Luis Diaz due to ‘realistic’ bonuses
According to HITC (via Athletic) (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool managed to get the better of Tottenham in the race for Luis Diaz from Porto due to ‘realistic bonuses’.
The Reds signed the Columbian winger from Portuguese giants Porto and he has taken to life on Merseyside like a fish to water. He has immediately settled into his new team, scoring three goals as Liverpool continue to push Manchester City for the Premier League title.
Having scored 16 goals and providing six assists before joining Liverpool. Diaz has already scored thrice for the Reds and will be hoping to add to that tally as they look to challenge Man City to the title. His arrival has added fresh impetus to the Reds’ title charge.
With such an immediate impact, Luis Diaz has won over the Reds faithful. However, Spurs were also interested in the Columbian but the reason Porto decided to sell the winger to Liverpool was due to the inclusion of more realistic bonuses.
These bonuses are claimed to include appearances and trophy wins, with Diaz already having lifted the Carabao Cup with the Reds. Crucially, Liverpool were also prepared to pay around £7 million instantly so that Porto could pay debts and stave off the threat of being banned from European competition by UEFA.
A match made in heaven?
Every time Luis Diaz plays, he looks like the perfect signing for Liverpool. The 25-year-old is still very young and continues to develop and could be a future superstar at Anfield if he continues at the same level.
The Colombian ace appears to be an ideal fit for the Reds. In Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, Liverpool have two superstars who are not getting any younger. The Reds will want the next generation to take over.
Diaz along with Diogo Jota could define a new era for the Reds. The former Porto man has a lot of talent and all the attributes to excel in a Klopp side.
Liverpool’s title hopes are no longer in their own hands and all they can do is ensure that they win every game. With that in mind, Diaz would be crucial for the Reds.
