Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek vows revenge against Liverpool in the FA Cup final

Speaking after Chelsea’s win against Crystal Palace to ITV as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Blues goal scorer Ruben Loftus-Cheek has admitted that Chelsea are looking forward to the rematch against Liverpool in the final of the FA Cup.

Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in the semi-finals of the FA Cup to book a date with Jurgen Klopp’s men in the final. The Reds themselves beat Manchester City 3-2 thanks to a brace from Sadio Mane and a headed goal from Ibrahima Konate.

The two teams met earlier this season in the final of the Carabao Cup where the Merseyside team emerged on top to clinch the Cup in dramatic fashion. In a match that went all the way to a penalty shootout, Liverpool held their nerve to win their record 9th League Cup title and their first since 2012- which was also won on penalties.

After the FA Cup semi-finals, a rematch of the Carabao Cup final has emerged yet again in the final and speaking about the matchup, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who scored the first goal for Chelsea last night, has vowed for revenge.

“I felt it was a fantastic game last time in the [Carabao Cup] final. It could have gone either way. We look forward to that and look forward to getting our revenge. It’s definitely time for us to win a final at Wembley.

“For myself it’s been five finals at Wembley, five finals I’ve lost. We remember fondly the last cup final we played at Wembley, now it’s time to get our payback.”

Almost there?

The long and gruelling season is almost at its end. Liverpool find themselves in a hunt for an unprecedented quadruple by an English team- a feat only 2006/07 Chelsea looked like achieving until 1st May, when Liverpool themselves knocked the Blues out of the UCL semi-final on the aggregate scoreline.

Klopp’s men have already won the Carabao Cup and now find themselves in a FA Cup final. They are also embroiled in a title race where they need Manchester City to drop points and also need to get past Villareal in the semi-final of the Champions League.

Tuchel and Chelsea stand in the way of the Reds with regards to the FA Cup but Liverpool must be taking confidence from the fact that they managed to get the better of the Blues in a previous final.

Liverpool will need a lot of things to be going their way if they are to win the quadruple. While the PL race is now in City’s hands, the Reds are still very much the makers of their destiny in the cup competitions.

The Blues have, however, proven to be tough nuts to crack this season and not many Reds fans would have fancied them in the final. All three of our games against them this season have finished as draws in regulation time.

As for Loftus-Cheek, perhaps it is better that he focuses on forcing his way into the Chelsea starting XI because he isn’t a regular starter for them. The West Londoners were forced to bring on the Englishman early on against Palace due to an injury to Mateo Kovacic.
