Transfer News: Celtic youngster Ben Doak confirms Liverpool transfer

According to a post on Instagram (h/t Liverpool Echo), Celtic starlet Ben Doak has confirmed his move to Liverpool in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 16-year-old is one of the finest young players at Celtic and has been on the radar of the Reds for some time now. It would appear that the Merseysiders have now got their man. While the club is yet to make the announcement official, the player’s social media has given the game away.

Doak posted a picture of him penning a Liverpool contract claiming that he is set for a new journey in his career. His revelation has also been backed up by several Celtic players who have commented on the post, wishing the teenager the best for his future.

Doak became the Hoops’ second-youngest ever debutant back in January. If anything, it is a testament to his excellent potential. Jurgen Klopp is an excellent developer of talent and there is no better place than Anfield for Doak to develop his talents.

Liverpool has built one of the best teams in world football in recent years. An infusion of youth is a welcome move if they are keen to continue their refound dominance on the field. The Reds already have a deal in place to bring in Fabio Carvalho from Fulham in the summer.

At 16, it is unlikely that Doak will be handed a spot in the senior squad. However, as we have seen with Harvey Elliott, age is just a number if you are good enough. Hopefully, the Scottish talents will live up to expectations and continue to serve the club for years to come.

Much will be expected of Doak on Merseyside. It is clear that he has huge shoes to fill. A right-winger, he certainly has the raw potential to fulfil expectations.

Liverpool are slowly yet steadily putting together a conveyor belt of young talent that can aid them for years to come. Whether Doak will be the last prospect to move to Anfield this summer remains to be seen.

Doak plays down the right flank and perhaps he can make his mark on the development squads before taking the step up to the senior level. The likes of Tyler Morton and Rhys Williams have enjoyed gametime under Klopp and with the Reds competing seriously on all fronts next season- just like they are doing right now- perhaps Doak can get a game or two with the big boys.-
