Injury News: Jurgen Klopp rules out Roberto Firmino for the Newcastle United vs Liverpool fixture

Speaking in the pre-match presser, as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gave an update regarding the injury of Roberto Firmino before the Newcastle United fixture. The Brazilian international will be absent for the tie against the Magpies at St James’ Park.

The Reds are currently having an amazing season, competing on several fronts. The German manager seems to have gotten his rotation and tactics right as we still have strong options available headed into the latter stages of the campaign.

That being said, the Merseysiders will have to play without Firmino against the Tyneside-based club. The 30-year-old striker has been a pivotal presence for Liverpool as he is in a race against time to get back to match fitness.

Klopp gave his verdict, hinting that Bobby’s injury isn’t very grave but the recovery is taking longer than expected.

“It’s not a serious injury but it takes now a little bit longer than we all thought. We will have to find a way of getting him back,”

The Brazilian magician out of contention

Whilst Firmino’s involvement with the first team may have reduced in the last couple of seasons, he has still been an integral part of our attack. He is a dependable asset who not only gets into pockets of spaces to create chances for us but also puts in a solid shift off the ball.

We have used Sadio Mane down the middle in recent fixtures and he has enjoyed this role. The Senegalese star has found success playing as a centre-forward for us in recent times, with his most recent goal coming against Villarreal in the first leg UEFA Champions League semi-final.

That being said, Klopp would like to have as many first-team stars available as possible as we compete for a potential quadruple in the 2021-22 season. Apart from Firmino, Curtis Jones and Kostas Tsimikas are also doubts for the clash against the Magpies.

Whilst the Greek international made it back to training yesterday, the English midfielder missed out. We would be hoping to pile the pressure on the Cityzens as we trail them by a solitary point in England’s top flight this campaign.

The Reds will be hoping that the Brazilian striker can make it in time for the clash against Villarreal for our second-leg UEFA Champion League semi-final tie. A clinical performance against Eddie Howe’s men could also give us some momentum heading into the game at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Moreover, May could be a busy month for us if we do make the UCL final. In that instance, it is always best to have your squad fit and ready to fire. Hopefully, the ex-Hoffenheim star makes it in time for the crunch fixtures next month.
