According to The Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Liverpool have already started their preparations for the trip to Villarreal immediately after full-time at Newcastle United.
The Reds made several changes to his side, resting some of their top players and making easy work of an in-form Magpies side. Naby Keita’s goal in the 19th minute proved to be the difference-maker on the night.
With games coming thick and fast, Klopp has no time to breathe and will always need to look at the bigger picture. It comes as no surprise that the Reds are already keeping an eye on their next opponents.
The Reds take on Villarreal at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Tuesday night. The stadium will be a cauldron of noise and despite our two-goal lead from the first leg, it will not be easy.
The Yellow Submarines too made several changes to their side for Saturday’s clash against Deportivo Alaves and it showed. While they may have lost 2-1 on the night, it is clear to see that their attention is on Tuesday’s fixture.
Liverpool analysts were keeping a close eye on proceedings and Klopp admitted to as much. Hopefully, all the bases will be covered ahead of what will undoubtedly be a hard-fought game regardless of the lead we mustered in the first leg.
“We finished the game and the analysts were in the dressing room and we’re asking how Villarreal are playing.”
Klopp also spoke about the changes Villarreal made on the night. That, if nothing, shows where their priorities lie. Beating Juventus and Bayern Munich is no easy task but the fact that Villarreal were able to do so speaks volumes of their ability.
“They play now as well, were 2-1 down and made changes as well. That’s our life.”
With games coming thick and fast it is imperative that the staff and the players address it one at a time. The fact they have already begun preparing for the next one without sparing any time is a good indicator. Hopefully, it will all pay off and we will rewrite history in the weeks to come.
It is a very rare sight to see Klopp drop Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho Tavares, and Mohamed Salah from the starting XI in the same match. It is clear he understands the task at hand this week.
