Injury News: Divock Origi returns to training for Liverpool ahead of the trip to Villarreal

According to The Mirror, Liverpool star Divock Origi is back in training ahead of the trip to Villarreal on Tuesday. He was at the heart of the club’s training session before the semi-final clash against the Yellow Submarines.

The Belgian international is in the final few months of his Reds’ contract and will be keen to end his stint at Anfield with a bang. Having led the club to their sixth European Cup in 2019, he has already etched his name into Liverpool folklore.

Origi continues to score important goals for the club and could yet have a chapter or two to write. With the second leg of the semifinals up next, it is natural that he has put his injuries behind him.

The 27-year-old missed Liverpool’s last game against Newcastle United. A Naby Keita goal in the first half was enough to see Jurgen Klopp’s side secure all three points on the night but had it not come, Klopp may have missed Origi’s presence on the bench.

With Roberto Firmino out injured, the Reds are short of a specialist striker to lead the line. With Origi back, Klopp will now have options should he need them.

If Origi makes the cut for Villarreal remains to be seen, with Sadio Mane making the centre-forward position his own in recent weeks. However, his return will certainly add more impetus to the Liverpool squad that is competing on all fronts.

The trip to the Estadio de la Ceramica will not be easy and Liverpool will need to be at their best. Having Origi, a player who is adept in clutch moments could be a gamechanger off the bench.

The Belgian is one of the few players from the Brendan Rodgers era to still remain at Anfield. The fact that he can go about pulling miracles out of the hat when needed is something to hold on to.

Diogo Jota is another player who can start down the middle. Mo Salah was left out of the starting XI against the Magpies so he is most certainly expected to start, but it remains to be seen if Luis Diaz makes the cut or not.
