Mohamed Salah contract latest: Liverpool star ‘tempted’ by the prospect of new challenge in Spain, Paris
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah is ‘tempted to move’ elsewhere for a new challenge, with Spain and Paris being potential destinations.
While the aforementioned claim doesn’t specify which teams in Spain would want him, the term ‘Paris’ would most certainly mean Paris Saint-Germain. After all, it would certainly be a surprise to hear Paris FC from Ligue 2 being his potential ‘new challenge’.
This doesn’t necessarily mean he is actively looking for an exit, but it does create anxiety amongst the Liverpool fanbase. And that is majorly due to his contract situation with the Reds.
The Egyptian’s deal at Anfield expires in the summer of 2023. Arguably one of the world’s best players right now, there is no doubt that fans would want him to stay on Merseyside for as long as possible.
The former AS Roma star has been electric ever since his return to the country in 2017. He had a short stint with Chelsea and was even in the small huddle of players that celebrated Demba Ba’s goal against us on that dreaded day in April 2014.
Who would have thought then that Mo Salah would go on to become one of the greatest players in the history of this club? Ever since joining us, he has been Liverpool’s top goalscorer in every single PL season and is currently en route to winning another Golden Boot.
Mo’ Salah-ry?
The question then arises, why have the Reds failed to tie him down to a new deal? It can’t be said for certain but one possibility is due to his wage demands. However, Salah claims it is more than just about money. In an interview with FourFourTwo (h/t ESPN) last month, he claimed:
“I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract it’s not everything about the money at all. So I don’t know, I can’t tell you exactly. I have one year left and the fans know what I want.”
Salah loves Liverpool and the city loves him. Fans around the world would, more often than not, recognize him as the face of the club. And in the quotes above, it is evident he is using that support to make his for a better deal.

No one can say that he doesn’t deserve an upgrade. But it is now in Liverpool’s hands. The ex-Fiorentina superstar turns 30 next month but if this season is anything to go by, he has a lot of football still left in him.
