Real Madrid cool down their interest in Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni after learning of £60m price tag
According to Spanish news outlet AS (h/t Daily Mail), Real Madrid have been ‘put off’ after learning of Monaco’s demand for Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni.
Tchouameni has consistently impressed for Monaco in recent seasons. Still only 22, the Frenchman has attracted interest from several suitors. After also representing France’s senior national team, the holding midfielder has attracted tremendous interest from some top-tier European teams.
Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been interested in signing Tchouameni. However, now it is believed that after learning Monaco’s price tag of £60m, Carlo Ancelotti’s team has cooled off their interest in the player.
It seems the Frenchman has notified Real Madrid they are his first preference. As a result, Los Blancos haven’t fully ended their transfer pursuit. They are hoping that the French midfielder would be capable of pressuring his parent team to lower the price to £40m or £50m.
Where does Liverpool stand in the Tchouameni race?
Liverpool are stated as an admirer of the Frenchman. Whether the price would be suitable for the Reds is still unknown. But it is believed that Jurgen Klopp is a massive fan of the 22-year-old, who currently seems to be validating the hype with his performances.
Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago Alcântara have gone past the 30-year mark, subsequently attracting more risk to their fitness. At the same time, while Hendo and Thiago have been very good this season, it remains to be seen how long they can keep playing for the Reds week in, week out.
Fabinho Tavares has long been an irreplaceable member of this team as a holding midfielder. However, Liverpool fans would probably agree that he has struggled at times in recent weeks. He did redeem himself in yesterday’s game with a crucial goal against Villarreal after a poor first half, but Tchouameni competing for that spot with him can benefit the club.
Tchouameni has shown great potential and could become a world-class player in the coming years. His arrival would certainly assist Jurgen Klopp in distributing the workload more effectively. After qualifying for the UCL final and the FA Cup final this month, LFC will now play every single game they could have possibly played this season.

And for that reason, it is always smart to keep your team stacked with quality. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been handed little to no minutes this year, while Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are currently not trusted as regular starters.
This creates a place for Tchouameni to come in and capitalise on. The Frenchman may have to battle a number of players to start- if he joins the Reds- but could well be the torchbearer of our midfield in the years to come.
