Injury News: Jurgen Klopp gives the latest on Roberto Firmino for Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, as quoted by Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp gave the latest injury update on Roberto Firmino ahead of the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs take on the Reds in an important league fixture tomorrow; one that means a lot for both teams. While the Lilywhites are battling Arsenal for the top four spots, Klopp’s men are chasing Manchester City at the top of the table with just 4 gameweeks to go.

Roberto Firmino has been a major absentee in recent weeks due to a foot injury. He missed our league wins against Manchester United, Everton, and Newcastle United, along with both legs of the UEFA Champions League semi-final clash against Villarreal.

The Reds have won all those five games and perhaps, the inclusion of Luis Diaz has allowed Sadio Mane to deputise at centre-forward in the Brazilian’s absence. Nevertheless, the ex-Hoffenheim star continues to be an important part of our attack and his ability to drop deep and create space for other attackers is something we can use.

No Firmino vs Spurs?

Not to mention, he has 5 goals in the last 7 league games for Liverpool against the Lilywhites. Klopp, in his latest comments, claimed that Firmino’s inclusion against Spurs is a possibility, but that it makes more sense for the striker to train through the weekend.

“I don’t know, but he’s ready for training. The foot thing meant he couldn’t do a lot, but we have to make sure he has a couple of sessions. It might be possible but it might make more sense to train through the weekend.”

If that is the case, we can see either Diogo Jota or Mane start up front. The Portuguese started in the 3-2 win against Villarreal while Mane has been a regular fixture in our starting lineup throughout the season.

The club has 6 big games left this month and Firmino has a knack for showing up when it matters. It is better not to risk him this weekend and save him for later. The Reds take on Chelsea on 14th May before heading to Paris on 28th May to take on Real Madrid in the UCL final.

Between now and the end of this month, the Reds have four PL games where they need to better Man City’s points tally by at least 1 point if they have any chance of winning the league title.
