La Liga club chief reveals teenage Liverpool target’s transfer stance

Transfer News: Barcelona chief Mateu Alemany reveals Gavi wants Camp Nou stay amid Liverpool links

Liverpool are believed to have been linked with a potential move for Barcelona wonderkid Gavi amidst claims that the Spaniard could leave Camp Nou this summer. That is according to Liverpool Echo, who also add that the teenager apparently has a £41million release clause.

These ‘rumours‘ apparently led to insecurity within the Barca camp which nudged them in the direction of wanting to offer Gavi a new deal. His current contract expires in the summer of 2023.

Just 17, he has become a vital member of the Barcelona squad in recent months and that trend has continued under Xavi Hernandez. Gavi has also earned six

senior caps for Spain- a remarkable figure for a player his age.
Barcelona star, Gavi, has been linked with Liverpool.

But in a conversation with Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany has revealed that the Blaugrana starlet wants to stay at Camp Nou. He even claims that the club has been in conversation with Gavi regarding this.

“Gavi wants to stay. We’ve been talking for a long time and the two parties have the same idea, that he will be a Barcelona player for many years.”

What next for Gavi and LFC?

That would come as a blow to Liverpool if they really wanted to bring in the midfielder in the near future. It would be a surprise, after all, to see a giant like Barca part ways with one of their best teenage prospects in a while.

We already have a Spanish midfield general of our own in Thiago Alcantara. But as good as the former Bayern Munich superstar is, he is not getting any younger at 31. And neither is 30-year-old Jordan Henderson.

Nevertheless, our fans can perhaps take comfort in claims that the club has apparently sealed a deal for Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho in advance while Aurelien Tchouameni, Monaco’s 22-year-old French midfielder, continues to be linked with a switch to Anfield.

One could say that with Tyler Morton, Harvey Elliott, and Curtis Jones, we have more or less future-proofed our midfield for the time being. But the trio is too young and inexperienced to become regular starters in big games under Jurgen Klopp.

Someone like Tchouameni can be a good prospect to have in our midfield in the short as well as the long run. Gavi, at 17, has also shown quality and maturity well beyond his years but if Alemany’s comments are to go by, the Reds are better off looking elsewhere.
