Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool monitored Aberdeen starlet Calvin Ramsay vs Dundee ahead of future purchase
Liverpool ‘monitored’ Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay when his team secured a 1-0 win against Dundee in the Scottish Premiership relegation round a few days ago. That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who claims ‘talks’ are ongoing for a potential move.
Ramsay is an 18-year-old right-back that has made a name for himself in recent months courtesy of some strong performances for a struggling Aberdeen. Despite a hamstring injury earlier this season, he has racked up one goal and 5 assists in 22 league games for the Dons.
Romano’s comments hint at the possibility that the Reds scouted the youngster during his team’s win against Dundee just over a week ago. However, he has not explicitly used that word in his tweet.
Talks are apparently ongoing regarding a fee and a contract for the youngster. Jim Goodwin’s side would understand that interest from a giant Liverpool could mean a chance for them to earn what they may believe is fair compensation for parting ways with Ramsay- if they are open to selling him at all.
Aberdeen took on Dundee FC in a tightly-contested fixture over a week ago, where they came out 1-0 winners courtesy of a penalty. Ramsay played the full 90 minutes at right-back.
Good move by LFC?
It would be interesting to see what this means for 20-year-old Welsh full-back, Neco Williams. Already a full international for his country, the youngster was loaned out to Fulham in the Championship earlier this season.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the undisputed first-choice right-back under Jurgen Klopp while Joe Gomez, who has made a name for himself as a centre-back at Anfield, has the ability to deputise in that position if and when needed.
Ramsay would, of course, not be a regular first-team starter at LFC given Trent’s involvement. But he is still young and would surely understand that he will have a ladder to climb in order to prove his worth to his potential new boss. That is, if he signs a deal with the Reds in the near future.

The last Scottish full-back that we signed, Andrew Roberston from Hull City, turned out to be quite a hit. If Ramsey can become even half the player that Robbo is, then we may have a real player on our hands.
