Liverpool reaches agreement with Derby County for the sell-on clause of Kaide Gordon

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have bought the sell-on clause of Kaide Gordon from Derby County in order to avoid paying any extra fee in future transfers involving the youngster.

Kaide Gordon joined Liverpool from Derby County in early 2021. After a successful display in training sessions and a few outings, the 17-year-old signed a professional contract with the Reds last October which included a sell-on clause.

Liverpool were agreed to pay 20% of the fee from any future transfers regarding the right-winger. It would cost the team a hefty amount later on as the youngster has the potential to reach significant heights and might be valued a lot more in the coming years.

However, recent news from Fabrizio Romano suggests that the Reds have avoided paying the 20% fee by reaching an agreement to exclude the sell-on clause from Gordon’s contract. It says the Reds have agreed to pay a fee of £500,000 to Derby County for the deal.

Due to the current ownership debacle of Derby County, a lot of uncertainty has mounted on their future pursuit. The vulnerable situation of Wayne Rooney’s team has become an advantage for Liverpool as they struck the deal for Kaide Gordon at the right time.

Boost for Liverpool?

Kaide Gordon is only 17 years old and has shown impressive performance in the four matches he has featured in this campaign across three competitions. He has even gained praise from Jurgen Klopp, who suggested that he has been closely keeping track of the youngster.

The youngster can become a big star in future, resulting in an improved market value. But Liverpool wouldn’t have enjoyed all the profits as they had to pay a significant amount to Derby. But the new agreement excludes such a possibility providing a boost to Jurgen Klopp’s future transfer plans.

Apart from Mohamed Salah, The Reds don’t have much quality backup in the right-wing role. However, considering his age, the Merseysiders might not be able to entirely rely on the performances of the Egyptian star in the long term.

Amid such a situation, Liverpool would be wise to groom a youngster for a future role. Considering the rapid growth and quality of Kaide Gordon, he has the potential to fulfil the requirement. It remains to be seen how he grows at the club.
