Transfer News: Karim Adeyemi chooses Borussia Dortmund switch amidst Liverpool interest
Karim Adeyemi, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent times, potentially has the task of replacing Erling Haaland for the second time in his short career.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that his agent is close to sealing a move for the striker with Borussia Dortmund. The Italian journalist has also revealed that Erling Haaland is set to move to Manchester City, with Adeyemi joining the Black and Yellow from RB Salzburg in a €38million move.
Adeyemi joined the Austrian giants from FC Liefering around the same time Erling Haaland left for the Bundesliga. Since the Norwegian’s departure, Adeyemi has been electric, scoring 33 goals and providing 23 assists in all club competitions to date.
Those numbers, for a 20-year-old youngster, are very good indeed. And that is why Dortmund have apparently eyed him to lead their attack for years to come amidst news of Haaland’s potential departure to City. But according to Liverpool Echo, the player has been linked with the Reds before this development.
Missed opportunity
This means any lingering hopes of signing the young German would be dashed by his impending move to Dortmund- at least for now. Jurgen Klopp is a legend at Signal Iduna Park but never got to coach Haaland during his time there.
He is now very likely to see the 21-year-old goal machine line up for Manchester City next season. As for Adeyemi, he could have been the one to replace Roberto Firmino in the long term in the number 9 role.
But what the Brazilian does up front goes beyond just goals. His ability to drop deep and create something from tight spaces, unselfishly pick out his teammates in the final third, and put in a shift off the ball makes him a unique asset for any team to have.
If Klopp wants to replace him in the long run, he would do well to get in a player of a similar profile as the ex-Hoffenheim star. Or, he could also look inwards considering Sadio Mane has done well in the centre-forward role while Diogo Jota is also ready to come to the fore.

Adeyemi could have certainly been an exciting talent to have here and his ceiling under a manager like Klopp would have known no bounds. But if the Reds want to strengthen up front, it is perhaps time to start looking elsewhere with the German set to move to his home country.
