Jurgen Klopp reveals Bayern Munich approached him more than once during his Liverpool stint
Speaking in an interview, as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp reveals he has rejected Bayern Munich more than once during his time at Anfield.
The German boss had a brilliant spell at Borussia Dortmund, where he put up a fierce challenge to Bayern’s dominance domestically. Pep Guardiola was, of course, Bayern’s manager for a while when Klopp was at Dortmund.
And the two have carried on their rivalry in England as well. The German arrived in England in late 2015, with Pep soon following suit. And now, Klopp has claimed he doesn’t really see a point in managing at any other club just for the glory.
“Which club should I go to to have a different situation? Tell me. The only thing I could do is ask Pep (Guardiola) if he is sick of all that winning and I take over at (Manchester) City. Is that the idea? That wouldn’t work, I don’t want to do it.”
The ex-Mainz 05 manager then revealed about interest from Bayern and how he rejected it to stay at Anfield. He has recently signed a new contract at the club that sees him extend his stay until 2026.
“I could have gone to Bayern a few times, I could have won more titles in my life, pretty sure I would say – a good chance at least. I didn’t do it. I had a contract here and I never did it. That’s completely fine.”
Good call, Klopp
It isn’t wrong to suggest that Bayern have hegemony in the Bundesliga when it comes to winning trophies. Their last trophyless campaign came in 2011/12, while they haven’t finished outside the top 4 in their league since the 1994/95 season.
As Klopp suggests, he could have added a couple of extra trophies to his tally had he taken up the job at Bayern- a team that houses some of the best talents in Germany and often sign quality players from their rivals.
But then again, he is a man of his word who honours his contract here. And that is exactly why he will go down as one of the greats at the club. Klopp’s comments could even be considered by some as a veiled dig towards Pep, who was a manager at Bayern.

Could he have implied it is easier racking up titles at Bayern? Perhaps. But let’s not go down that road by trying to find more fuel to add to the existing fire!
For Klopp, today serves as the chance to finally win the FA Cup. Ever since he arrived on Merseyside, he has won every possible major trophy at this club- apart from the one at stake against Chelsea at Wembley in a few hours’ time.
