Liverpool Transfer News: Jude Bellingham confirms Borussia Dortmund stay for next season
Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham is a name frequently linked with a transfer move to Liverpool. According to Liverpool Echo, the Reds have had an interest in him but any potential move for the player would have come in 2023 given the FIFA World Cup this year.
Also, Erling Haaland joining Manchester City this summer would have naturally made the Black and Yellow nervous about losing two of their biggest young talents in the same window. They already sold Jadon Sancho to Manchester United last summer.
But now, Bellingham has confirmed where he intends to be next season. He told Ruhr Nachrichten BVB (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“The only future I think about is the next game for Dortmund. I look forward to next season. I look forward to it finally starting. But yes, I will be here next season and I will be ready.”
Going by what Bellingham has said, it doesn’t guarantee a long-term stay at Westfalenstadion. And going by what Echo claims, any potential move would have come about next year. Hence, Bellingham’s statements don’t come as a big blow to the Reds.
LFC must keep track of Bellingham
The youngster, just 18, is already making waves for Gareth Southgate’s England team. The World Cup in Qatar could well be his first major tournament with the Three Lions and it is important that he stays in a team where he is guaranteed first-team football until then.
Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, and Fabinho are already vying for playing time amongst each other. And with Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner also in the mix, there is no guarantee Bellingham would have been a sure starter under Jurgen Klopp next season if he is to sign this summer.
Nevertheless, he is a player LFC must keep their eyes on and beat any potential suitor to get. The talented ex-Birmingham City midfielder has the tools to become one of the greats of his generation.
He gets into the box, can pass the ball well, and is a strong presence for Dortmund even when out of possession. Klopp generally likes his midfielders to contribute on both halves of the pitch and Bellingham’s ceiling under the German would know no bounds.

Klopp, of course, is himself a Dortmund icon. Whether he can get his former club to sell him, one of their biggest stars in Jude is something only time will tell. He is yet to sign a player directly from Signal Iduna Park during his time at Anfield.
