“That’s why I came” – Liverpool star makes Man City transfer admission after FA Cup win

James Milner feels vindicated for making the switch to Liverpool from Manchester City

Speaking after Liverpool won the FA Cup against Chelsea, as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Liverpool vice-captain James Milner claimed he feels vindicated by the decision to join the Reds from Manchester City.

Milner made the switch to Anfield from Etihad seven years ago and has grown in stature to become Liverpool’s vice-captain now. The veteran midfielder has won every major trophy with the Reds during his time here.

This includes the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, the League Cup, the FA Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

At 36, the former Leeds United man is still going strong and has proved to be a vital utility player for Liverpool. He claims that he made the move away from Manchester City to win titles and feels vindicated by that decision.

“That’s why I came here. When I went to City they hadn’t won anything for a long time. Liverpool is an incredible club with incredible history, but it hadn’t been as successful, hadn’t won the Premier League, which was baffling. That was the aim, and if we could do that, win a Premier League here, that would be special. It’s a process, and the process has been incredible.”

The perfect team man?

A true professional, James Milner is the perfect team man. A player who goes about his job without much fuss, the English footballer is capable of filling in at multiple positions including anywhere across the midfield and in the full-back positions. His stint at left-back for us will perhaps never be forgotten by our fans, given how surprisingly good he turned out to be there.

At 36, Milner might not be a starter anymore but he has still made 37 appearances

for the Reds this season, proving to be a utility player off the bench. He has also managed to make 3 assists during this time.
James Milner is a coach’s delight

He shows barely any signs of slowing down and still plays every single game with utmost intensity and purpose and he is no doubt a coach’s delight. His contract expires at the end of the season and not many of our fans would be averse to seeing him stay for longer.

He might not have what it takes to play 90 minutes week in week out anymore but with his extremely high fitness standards, there is no doubt that Milner can continue playing at a team like ours for at least a couple more seasons.

More Liverpool News

It remains to be seen what happens with Milner and the Reds, but his time at Liverpool has been nothing short of spectacular. His words are resounding as well, considering Man City’s success in the past decade.

He came here to bring back glory to Anfield and become a part of a journey- not a passenger. Milner is one of the players central to Klopp’s dynasty here and he will go down as an icon of this great club.
