Transfer News: Blow for Liverpool as Real Madrid reignite Aurelien Tchouameni interest
According to FootMercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool could be in for a transfer blow as Spanish giants Real Madrid have reignited their interest in Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and have made ‘new contact’ with the player.
The Reds are credited with a long-term interest in the talented French midfielder but supposed interest from Real Madrid might set the cat among the pigeons for Liverpool. The Reds are not the only club interested in the 22-year-old with Chelsea and Barcelona said to be in the mix.
Tchouameni has been great for Monaco in Ligue 1 this season. He is predominantly a defensive midfielder but can play as a central midfielder as well, given his skills on and off the ball.
The former Bordeaux man has played 49 times for the French giants scoring 5 goals and providing 3 assists during this time. Such performances have made the whole of Europe sit up and take notice of the Frenchman and he would surely not be short of suitors were he to move in the near future.
A born talent?
Tchouameni has already won eight caps in an extremely talented midfield for the French national team and it is very evident that Didier Deschamps rates him highly.
The Reds could do with a midfield addition of the Frenchman’s quality, considering that it is still probably an area they can strengthen but with Real Madrid in the fray, it is difficult to see this being an easy process for Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp already has Fabinho to play in the defensive midfield role and the Brazilian is undoubtedly one of the best players in his position. However, the flexibility that the French youngster offers means he could play in a two alongside the Brazilian or as a backup in the number 6 role- with a view of being Fabinho’s long-term replacement.
Liverpool will be hoping that they manage to convince Tchouameni to join them over Real Madrid but it will be far from easy. If they indeed manage to sign the French midfielder, the midfield of the Reds will be sorted for years to come.

Tchouameni is a talent born to succeed. Whether it happens at Liverpool or elsewhere remains to be seen. Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, and James Milner are good at what they do. But it would be a wise move by the club to bring in some young blood and replenish this midfield.
