Transfer News: PSG emerge as new favourites to sign Liverpool star Sadio Mane despite Bayern Munich interest
According to Christian Falk of BILD (h/t Liverpool Echo), PSG are the favourites to sign Sadio Mane if he leaves Liverpool despite interest in the player from Bayern Munich.
The Senegal international is on a contract that expires in the summer of 2023. Like Mohamed Salah, he is yet to sign a renewal, and that has naturally raised questions about his future at Anfield.
Mane has been linked with the current Bundesliga champions and that is not a secret anymore. But Falk believes that it is Paris Saint-Germain who are the current favourites to sign him because of the level of interest they are showing in him, coupled with lucrative wages.
Mane, at 30, isn’t getting any younger. But then again, he hasn’t shown signs of slowing down at all- keeping LFC in the hunt for the quadruple this season while also landing his country’s first-ever AFCON title earlier this year.
What next for Mane?
In Roberto Frimino’s recent absence, the former Southampton attacker filled in well at centre-forward, raising a possibility that he can prolong his peak in football if he switches to a position more central in attack.
That is what Cristiano Ronaldo did when he switched from left wing to centre-forward, and it has done wonders for him. But with Mane having won virtually every major trophy at Liverpool now, perhaps expanding the trophy cabinet by conquering another country also seems like an enticing prospect.
PSG currently have the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Angel di Maria, Mauro Icardi, and Lionel Messi in attack. But with the French superstar seemingly close to signing for Real Madrid as a free agent this summer as per ESPN, it remains to be seen if the Parisiens target a player like Mane as his potential replacement.

Liverpool would be smart to fight tooth and nail to keep hold of their star attacker. He is the man for the big occasion and alongside Luis Diaz, is the reason why Mohamed Salah’s underwhelming form post-AFCON hasn’t derailed the club’s season.
