Transfer News: Takumi Minamino of Liverpool on the radar of Lazio

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Lazio are interested in making a move for Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino.

This summer, the Serie A side is apparently willing to offer the Japanese international a way out of Anfield. Minamino has visibly struggled for playing time since his move from RB Salzburg.

He was even loaned out to Southampton for the second half of last season because of the lack of minutes. The 27-year-old striker has only played 176 minutes of league football this season.

In fact, he only has 1,008 minutes of senior football in all competitions for the Reds, and he has still managed to score 10 times during that period. With 17 goals in 39 appearances for Japan, Minamino’s pedigree on the big stage isn’t up for debate.

Takumi to Lazio?

This season as well, he has shown how important he is to the team. Minamino’s contribution in helping Liverpool navigate through tricky fixtures in the FA Cup and League Cup is why the Reds are chasing the quadruple in May.

But one must look at things from the player’s perspective as well. At 27, it’s not like he is the same age as someone like Harvey Elliott who can make sense of reduced playing time and patiently wait for his time out in the sun.

If he gets promised playing-time in Serie A, that too at a top team such as I Biancocelesti, then it may make more sense for his individual career. Minamino, after all, isn’t a bad player.

He is pretty versatile in attack and can fill in multiple positions, as he has done during his time here. Minamino was seen scoring against Southampton in our 2-1 league win at St Mary’s and with two of the biggest games in our season up ahead, it remains to be seen if Minamino gets to play for us again before the summer window opens.
