Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has clarified his previous comments on Real Madrid
While speaking in an interview as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has revealed why he wanted to face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final.
Liverpool are set to face Real Madrid in the final on 28th May. Even though the Reds didn’t know whom they were gonna face in the final after beating Villareal in the semi-final, Salah suggested that he would like to compete against Los Blancos.
The comments were interpreted in several ways across online mediums. Many thought Salah was pointing towards a revenge mission against Real Madrid. However the Egyptian forward recently revealed that wasn’t his intention as he was intending to say he wants to face the best team and at that moment Carlo Ancelotti’s men seemed pretty intimidating.
“When (I said) I wish we could face Real Madrid, this was as if I said something wrong about them. I am talking about the strongest team in Champions League history, and I said that because of what happened before [2018 final in Kyiv]. The match will be difficult, and this team has won almost against all the strong teams. (But) I am very excited about the final and I hope we can win it.”
Mohamed Salah was fouled by Sergio Ramos in the 2018 Champions League final, owing to which he had to leave the field only inside the half-hour mark. The Egyptian star was devastated and was seen crying while leaving the pitch.
Without their star performer, Liverpool couldn’t manage the game’s intensity and failed prey to Real Madrid’s attacks, resulting in a disappointing 3-1 loss for the English team.
Time for payback?
Salah has been one of the top-performing strikers in the world in this campaign. He has secured a total of eight goals and two assists in 12 matches in the Champions League this season. As things stand, he remains the fourth highest scorer in the competition and will be looking to increase his tally in the final game.
Salah couldn’t deliver in the last final due to his injury and he was heartbroken at that time. However, rather than sitting on the grief, he has helped his team to reach the same stage once again. Being one of the best players in the world, the Reds fans want him to deliver, but keeping the quality of Real Madrid wouldn’t be easy.
Mohamed Salah was taken off early against Chelsea in the FA Cup final due to injury. He has missed one Premier League match after that. When asked whether the Egyptian star would be involved in the final league game, the German manager suggested that they don’t want to take any risks.

Salah’s presence would be vital for Liverpool against Real Madrid. Hence it would be better to keep him rested for the final league game in order to get him in the best shape possible for the UCL final. It remains to be seen what the manager decides.
