Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Fulham star Fabio Carvalho

According to Liverpool’s official website, Fulham star Fabio Carvalho is set to join Liverpool on July 1 when the summer transfer window opens.

Carvalho has had a massive impact in Fulham’s triumphant Championship season where they earned a promotion to the Premier League. Scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 38 matches across all competitions, the youngster emerged as one of the crucial members of Marco Silva’s squad. However, it seems the youngster is eying a new challenge.

Liverpool have been interested in Carvalho for quite some time and even tried to sign him in the January window, but that deal never materialised. Now they have officially revealed the signature of the 19-year-old, who is expected to join the first team squad from July 1 according to the club’s official website.

Liverpool are believed to have agreed on a £5m transfer fee that could rise to £7.7m thanks to the add-ons. The Reds are also obliged to pay a 20% selling fee due to the sell-on clause Fulham have attached to his contract.

A good signing for the Reds?

The 19-year-old has shown maturity in his playing style and his performances have belied the years. The Portuguese starlet has the potential to thrive at the top level and with the assistance of Liverpool’s world-class structure and coaching staff, he could hit the top in the coming years.

Carvalho is a versatile player who can play as an attacking midfielder, central midfielder and left-winger, which makes him a versatile attacking option. Liverpool’s ageing core needs to be addressed and the club appears to be doing just that.

They suffered a mini-injury crisis where Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Thiago were all injured. It resulted in some poor performances that might have affected their chances of securing the Premier League. Liverpool, as a top team, can’t take such chances and require a robust and youthful quality depth.

Liverpool’s trademark transfer campaign has always been finding talents before they hit the world-class level. In this way, they avoid paying significant fees. It has been successful so far in the Jurgen Klopp era as some players came in for cheap and outdone their transfer fee.

The Reds fans would hope that Carvalho does the same. Considering he is young and already showing signs of maturity, there is every reason to believe that the 19-year-old can develop into a world-class player.
