Transfer News: Bayern Munich move closer to signing Liverpool star Sadio Mane

According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg on Twitter, there is movement in talks between Liverpool star Sadio Mane and Bayern Munich regarding a potential summer transfer.

The Senegalese winger has seen himself get linked with a move to the Allianz Arena this month. His contract expires in the summer of 2023 and it seems like the Bavarians have had a sniff that he may want to join them next season.

Plettenberg believes the player can now ‘imagine’ himself joining the current Bundesliga champions. The fee could be less than €50million with Julian Nagelsmann keen to sign the ex-RB Salzburg star.

The fee quoted above seems too low for a player of Mane’s quality, who has performed consistently for us on the biggest of stages. But then again, he will have just one year remaining on his deal this summer and is already 30 years old.

Mane to Bayern?

And that is why the Reds would be wise to tie him to a new deal and let him see out the remainder of his peak years at Anfield. He is a legend at LFC and still has a lot of football left in him.

His fitness, availability and consistency are immaculate. Mane has featured for Liverpool week in, week out this season and also flew out to Senegal midway through the campaign to lead his team to their first-ever AFCON title.

A Ballon d’Or contender shouldn’t really be going for that cheap but then again, such a thing may not be in our hands if Mane doesn’t renew his deal with us.

It is also wise to remember that we signed one of the best midfielders in the world from Bayern in the summer of 2020 for just £20million in initial fee and £5m in potential add-ons. Their fans would perhaps feel like the Reds owe their club a bargain deal at this point.

It remains to be seen what happens with Mane this summer but it is imperative that such talks take place after the UEFA Champions League final in Paris on 28th May. Before that, the Reds should have just one aim- to win their seventh UCL title.
