Transfer News: Liverpool willing to trigger release clause for Gavi amidst Barcelona contract standoff
According to Spanish publication Diario Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Liverpool are open to meeting the £42million release clause for Barcelona star, Gavi, amidst his current contract situation.
His deal at Camp Nou expires in the summer of 2023 and his agent, Ivan de la Pena, is at odds with the Blaugrana club over a new contract. Amidst this, it is claimed that Barca face a threat from the Reds, who are linked with the 17-year-old starlet.
The Reds can also apparently pay better wages to Gavi, given Barcelona’s current financial situation. Normally, when a team like LFC are linked with such a young player, fans would expect them to climb their way up from the development team before having a crack at first-team football.
But not Gavi. There is no doubt that the Spaniard- if he does join Liverpool- would be a straightforward inclusion into our first-team set-up. His rise and rise over the last year has been something extraordinary.
Gavi to LFC?
He has made 47 appearances across all competitions this season for a European giant like Barcelona. And while some players struggle to earn a single cap for their national team throughout their careers, Gavi already has six.
It would be a pleasant change of scenery if the Reds are the ones here benefitting from a contract standoff. Currently, the club is itself in a situation where two of our best players- Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah- are yet to renew their deal that expires next year.
Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, who primarily played as wingers during their youth days, have made a mark in Klopp’s midfield. But those who watch Gavi play week in, week out would acknowledge how natural the youngster looks while playing in central midfield.
