Transfer News: Ousmane Dembele pursued by Liverpool and three other clubs with Barcelona contract expiring

According to transfer news on Spanish outlet El Nacional (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are one of the four clubs trying to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

The 25-year-old star’s contract at Camp Nou comes to an end this summer but the club is still hopeful he renews his deal. This situation has piqued the interest of European giants such as the Reds, PSG, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich.

The Frenchman won the World Cup with Les Bleus in 2018 but hasn’t really had the impact he was expected to make at Barca since his move from Borussia Dortmund. That, however, changed to some extent this season.

His form under Xavi Hernandez is brilliant and he is one of Barca’s chief attacking threats going forward. A player capable of playing equally well with both his feet, Dembele’s dribbling, passing and shooting skills makes him a very potent option up front.

What next for Dembele?

His injury issues in Spain have slowed down his growth trajectory but at 25, he still has time on his hands to fulfil his potential. The Reds could, meanwhile, lose both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah by next summer.

The two superstars are on contracts that expire next year and could leave the Reds if they don’t renew their deals. Dembele, in that regard, could be a signing that becomes almost necessary to make.

The Reds have rarely ever been a more attractive destination for top talent around the world since the turn of this century. Jurgen Klopp is here to stay for a while and the German has made LFC a team that regularly fights for the biggest trophies in club football.

Liverpool finished second in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League this season. To repeat that feat and go one step further, Klopp would know that the Reds have to come out of this summer window with a squad that has been strengthened- rather than one which is weakened.
