Transfer News: Serge Gnabry could join Liverpool on a cut-price fee with Sadio Mane set for Bayern Munich move

According to transfer news on Anfield Central (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have ‘held talks’ to sign Serge Gnabry from Bayern Munich this summer.

This comes after Sadio Mane has been heavily linked with a switch to Bayern. The Bavarian giants apparently value the former Arsenal star at £68million but could be forced to sell him for a fee between £30-34million.

Gnabry could be the man we need as a long-term replacement for Mane- even if the Senegalese star stays at Anfield for next season. It is always wise to plan for the future.

The Reds have signed Luis Diaz in January but that won’t be enough if they want to repeat a quadruple charge again next season. It is imperative that LFC keep up with the competition around them.

Gnabry to LFC?

While Roberto Firmino has had a season to forget when it comes to individual glory, Manchester City have signed Erling Braut Haaland to further strengthen their attack. With both Mane and Mohamed Salah out of contract in 2023, the alarm bells are ringing.

Stuttgart-born Gnabry did not have a rosy time at the Emirates and was subsequently sold to Werder Bremen in 2016. Bayern came calling the next year and since then, the versatile attacker has only gone from strength to strength.

Now 26, he is arguably in the best years of his playing career. Gnabry can play down the wings and has famously played as a centre-forward for both Bayern and the German national team on several occasions.

Diogo Jota is similarly versatile and along with Gnabry, the two can lead our attack for years to come even if our famed ‘front three’ depart Anfield. The price being quoted for him above seems more than reasonable for a player of his age and calibre.

Hopefully, the Reds and Bayern can come to a conclusion whereby a deal for Gnabry and Mane doesn’t overly benefit one party over the other.

The German star has 17 goals and 10 assists across all competitions for Bayern this season- numbers that would certainly make many sit up and take notice.
