Transfer News: Sadio Mane claims his Liverpool future depends on Senegal fans amid Bayern Munich links
Bayern Munich are interested in signing Liverpool star Sadio Mane. This isn’t news for anyone following LFC, but it now seems like the Senegalese superstar is himself sold on the idea of leaving Anfield this summer.
Speaking ahead of Senegal’s AFCON qualifier against Benin this weekend (h/t Liverpool Echo), Mane claimed that he reads social media posts and his future depends on what his fellow countrymen want.
“Like everyone else, I’m on social media and I see the comments. Isn’t it between 60 to 70% of Senegalese want me to leave Liverpool? I will do what they want. We will see soon! Don’t be in a hurry because we will see this together. The future will tell us.”
Mane promised fans that he will give a definitive answer on his Liverpool future after the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid. Perhaps that is where the first hint on his future lies.
What next for Mane?
Given the high of winning a trophy such as the UEFA Champions League, LFC fans would have taken any news of Mane leaving in a much better manner than they would have had the news broken out after a UCL final loss.
Could that be a reason why Mane didn’t give an answer on his future after the final in Paris? Keep in mind, this is just a theory with no factual backing. He could, of course, stay here given that his contract expires in the summer of 2023.
It is also peculiar of Mane to claim that his future depends on what the majority of Senegal fans want. There is no hiding the fact that Mohamed Salah tends to get more attention at Liverpool than the former Southampton star.
If you were a Mane fan from Senegal, it wouldn’t be unnatural to feel that the 30-year-old winger has perhaps been put in Salah’s shadow. The Lions of Teranga beat Egypt in the final of the AFCON earlier this year.
And they proceeded to end their hopes of making the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year. Mane was also arguably the better attacker out of the two in the second half this season and if Salah still continues to grab the headlines, perhaps Senegal fans can’t be blamed if they feel that Mane needs to be appreciated more at Anfield.

Just take their contract situations as an example. Both superstars are set to become free agents next year but social media, over the past several months, has fixated its attention on the former AS Roma man’s future.
Maybe it is time for Mane to get the attention and respect he deserves.
