Liverpool and the Netherlands star Virgil van Dijk keen to improve further in the 2022/23 season

According to the club’s official site via Instagram, Liverpool superstar Virgil van Dijk is keen to keep improving next season and is targeting further glory with the Reds in 2022/23.

The Dutchman is arguably the top centre-back in the world and has returned to his best since his return from injury. He has been dominant at the back and has also been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award.

The 30-year-old has enjoyed a good season that saw the Reds win two trophies. He admits that while it was not easy, there were certainly enough reasons to be happy about. Finishing runners-up in the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League brings with it no glory, but it is certainly no easy task.

“My season is done. A season that had tough moments, but most of all full of happy moments.”

Van Dijk goes on to add that he will not take the success he has had for granted and will keep working to get better. This is just the news we would want to have heard following what was a heartbreaking final week of our 2021/22 campaign.

Having given it his all last season, Van Dijk now is with the Dutch national side as they opened their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 4-0 hammering of Belgium last night. He is keen to make the most of his time away from Kirkby and also earn himself some much-needed rest.

“I’m blessed and privileged and I really don’t take any of that for granted, I will keep continuing to improve and to get better but now is time to rest and completely switch off.”

The best indeed.

At 30, Van Dijk has plenty of years left in the tank and can potentially have another go at the quadruple next season. An ACL injury could not keep him down and there is little reason to believe that setbacks on the field will.

He also took the opportunity to thank everyone associated with the club. Next season cannot come soon enough and the Dutch star, like most of his LFC teammates, would be itching to wrong the rights and go once again for the quadruple.

With Van Dijk and now Ibrahima Konate at the helm, the Reds appear to have their centre-back spot sorted for the next few years. It is truly a blessed time to support the football club.
