Egypt take decision on injured Mohamed Salah for Ethiopia clash

Injury News: Egypt take decision on Liverpool star Mohamed Salah for South Korea friendly

According to the Egypt FA (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah will miss his country’s AFCON qualifier against Ethiopia on 9th June.

The Egyptian superstar, according to manager Ehab Galal, played through an injury in his country’s 1-0 win against Naby Keita’s Guinea and refused to undergo scans when he joined his country’s camp after returning for Liverpool.

Salah is arguably the best footballer Egypt have produced in recent memory and he continues to be their prized possession. It remains to be seen how he has been affected by the injury but it has apparently been labelled

as a ‘minor muscle strain’.

It won’t really have an effect on Liverpool right now given our season is over. But it does showcase that the winger could well have harboured an issue when he was playing in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.

However, his performance, especially in the second half of that 1-0 loss would indicate otherwise. Nevertheless, it has now been confirmed that he will be rested against Ethiopia later this week.

Egypt are favourites to progress from Group D of the AFCON qualifiers. They have already beaten Guinea while fans would fancy them to avoid losing against Malawi and Ethiopia.

Egypt then have a friendly coming up against South Korea on Tuesday, 14th June, which could see Salah come face-to-face with the man he shared this season’s Premier League Golden Boot with- Son Heung-min.

Hopefully, the rest does Salah a world of good and he can be back firing for Egypt once again to build on his tally of 45

goals in 83 games for his country. However, they must be careful and avoid rushing him back into action so as to avoid aggravating his injury.
