Liverpool miss out on Aurelien Tchouameni as Real Madrid reach agreement with Monaco

According to David Ornstein at The Athletic (h/t LiverpoolEcho), Real Madrid and Monaco have reached an agreement for Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni.

Aurelien Tchouameni was a key member of Monaco’s Ligue 1 third-place finish this season. He appeared in 35 league games, scoring three goals and assisting on two others, as well as 11 games in European tournaments.

Since making his international debut in September 2021, the French midfielder has established himself as a regular starter for Didier Deschamps’ defending World champions. In his two and a half seasons at Monaco, Tchouameni has made 95 appearances.

Liverpool were interested in the Frenchman. As the Reds’ average midfield age is reaching a concerning level, they might be better off with a quality young addition to the team.

However, Real Madrid is believed to have completed the transfer of AS Monaco starlet Aurelien Tchouameni. Many heavyweight teams were interested in signing the France international, but the 22-year-old midfielder ultimately selected the reigning European champions as his next destination.

According to David Ornstein at The Athletic (h/t LiverpoolEcho), Real Madrid and AS Monaco have struck a deal worth €100m for the transfer of Aurelien Tchouameni. The paperwork and legal processes for the 22-year-move old to be signed and formally announced are now being completed by both teams.

Liverpool’s ageing midfielders had a brief injury crisis at the start of last season, with James Milner and Thiago Alcântara, Naby Keita, and Curtis Jones all missing time due to injury. Despite the fact that they have all recovered completely, the incident has alerted Liverpool to the dangers of playing these aged players in regular fixtures.

Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid is almost done.

Apart from Curtis Jones, Liverpool’s midfield group lacks any young players, which might pose a problem for Jurgen Klopp’s long-term intentions.

However, it seems the Frenchman has other preferences for his next destination. This seems to be a big blow to the Reds’ transfer project, however, signing such a highly sought-after midfielder was never easy. At the end of the day, the player’s desire played a significant role and our club should make peace with it and move on to the next target.
