According to The Times (Subscription Required), Bayern Munich’s latest offer for the signing of Senegalese striker Sadio Mane made the Liverpool officials laugh before rejecting it.
Mane has developed into a really world-class footballer at Liverpool over the last six years, and they are unwilling to let him depart on the cheap.
Jurgen Klopp’s side is prepared to play hardball with clubs interested in signing Sadio Mane, with Bayern Munich leading the race to get him. Liverpool has previously turned down a £25 million
deal from the German champions, and they have now turned down a second attempt. It’s also understandable why Bayern’s follow-up offer was turned down. The second bundle is worth a total of £30 million, a modest increase over the first, but it includes some pretty insane incentives.
According to The Times, the guaranteed fee would be £23.5 million, with Mane having to win the Champions League and the Ballon d’Or in each of the three years of his contract for Liverpool to receive the remaining funds.
Liverpool acted quickly and correctly in rejecting the bid, calling the conditions “laughable”. The Merseysiders made it obvious that Hasan Salihamidzic’s latest effort was a farce, with the German club remaining short of the £42.5 million
valuation of the Senegalese international.Given that the former Southampton ace’s contract is slated to expire next summer, one would argue that we’re taking a big risk, especially because the German champions might agree on a pre-contract pact with the 30-year-old in the near future.
Again, it’s important to remember that we’re talking about the future of an AFCON champion and a Ballon d’Or candidate – for £42.5 million, Bayern are still getting a good deal on one of the best offensive talents in the world.
Mane’s departure is a bittersweet end to his successful spell at Anfield. But as long as it helps fund a new deal for Mo Salah and a transfer for Darwin Nunez, fans have every reason to be enthusiastic about the future.
