Transfer News: Manchester United ‘seriously interested’ in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain of Liverpool but on one condition

According to TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook (h/t Liverpool Echo), Manchester United would be seriously interested in signing Liverpool outcast Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain if the price is right.

The Red Devils are apparently okay with paying a £10million fee for the 28-year-old English midfielder. Oxlade-Chamberlain joined from Arsenal back in 2017.

And while he was a crucial player in Jurgen Klopp’s team in the first couple of seasons, he has been far removed from first-team action in recent months. In fact, he is yet to play for the club since an FA Cup fixture against Nottingham Forest on 20th March this year.

West Ham United and Aston Villa are also linked with the ex-Southampton player but United’s dearth of options in midfield could nudge them in the direction of signing Oxlade-Chamberlain. That would be the transfer of the summer were it to happen.

Ox to Man United?

And that’s not because the Ox is one of the best players in the world. It would be due to the fact that no player has directly transferred between the two clubs since Phil Chisnall in 1964.

Without Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, and Jesse Lingard for next season, Erik ten Hag certainly faces a situation where he would need new faces in United’s midfield. It would be strange if one of those faces turns out to be that of the Ox.

In theory, it doesn’t really seem that unrealistic. Oxlade-Chamberlain has shown that he has the talent to play for top teams and if Man Utd need an option in the middle of the park, he can be a dependable candidate.

Given his PL experience and the fact that he would be eager to break into England’s national team again, Oxlade-Chamberlain would be better off leaving Anfield. But given the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool, this is something we would not advise you to put your money on.
