Tottenham Hotspur star Emerson Royal makes Liverpool confession amidst Djed Spence threat
Not every team in the world has a right-back like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool, because of the world-class Englishman, know that the right side of their backline is a position they don’t really need to worry about.
Sure, they can strengthen in that area and get someone as Trent’s understudy, but his place in the starting XI is untouchable. One PL team that is apparently looking to solidify the right-hand side of their defence is Tottenham Hotspur.
The London-based club has been linked with a move for Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence ahead of the summer transfer window. And this could threaten Emerson Royal’s place in the Spurs XI.
The Brazilian star was signed from Barcelona last summer and has featured 44 times this season for his team. Speaking on a Brazilian podcast show Podpah via Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), Emerson revealed his admiration for Liverpool along with some other teams.
“I had a dream of playing for Barcelona, right? Today, of course, I admire many, many clubs. Several clubs. Let’s put a list of five, six top clubs: [Man] City, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, big clubs that, of course, everyone wanted to play in a team, apart from Tottenham, which I play. But a specific team like that, not today.”
Of course, Emerson’s comments don’t really mean that he’s thinking of leaving the club or wants to actively push for a move to any of the teams he mentioned above,
But it is always refreshing to see the impact and reach LFC has. If the Reds were to ever push for a move to sign Emerson, then such factors can be a deciding factor. However, it seems that Jurgen Klopp’s team are now close to signing Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen.
Spurs also have Matt Doherty in their ranks and in case Spurs do sign Spence, it could mean Emerson struggles for playing time. But having been at N17 for just a year, it would be a surprise if he switches teams so early.
