Transfer News: SL Benfica receive official Liverpool bid for Darwin Nunez, Manchester United deny meeting

Fabrizio Romano has just confirmed that SL Benfica have received an official bid from Liverpool for Darwin Nunez. That would come as a positive update for LFC fans.

If true, it then means that the club is very, very keen on signing the Uruguayan sensation this summer. The formal bid consists of €80million plus bonuses, with discussions ongoing on €15-20m in add-ons.

To add to our excitement, the Italian transfer expert mentions that Manchester United are denying having a late meeting with Nunez’s entourage to hijack a move. A case of sour grapes?

Even if that’s not the case, it then means the path for the Reds to sign Nunez is a bit clearer. The 22-year-old Benfica star has risen to fame over the past year and has made a name for himself in the UEFA Champions League.

Nunez to LFC a done deal?

His goals against FC Barcelona really made the world stand up and take notice, while Jurgen Klopp had a front-seat view of what the former UD Almeria striker is capable of when he netted against Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the UCL.

It would have been embarrassing to lose out to an arch-rival in the Nunez transfer race, and although it is still not a done deal, the Uruguayan star looks likely to become a Red in the near future.

Benfica would be aware that the ex-Penarol star has only produced such form in just one season. However, if Klopp and co are bidding serious money for the youngster, then his ceiling must be limitless.

Klopp helped make Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino the world-renowned superstars they are today. There is no reason why he cannot replicate the trick with the likes of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and hopefully, Nunez.
