According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool expect Bayern Munich to bid £42million for Sadio Mane, which would be around the same fee the German giants want for Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish striker has been unstoppable at the Allianz Arena but is now heavily linked with an exit this summer. With just one year left on his current deal, the Bundesliga winners are seeking £43million from the Catalan giants.
Lewa is 33 and Mane is 30, which makes Bayern’s bids all the more strange. They have had two offers rejected for the Senegal international, with the second one consisting of a £23.5million initial fee and £6.5million in ridiculous add-ons.
The latter amount would have been paid to LFC if Mane was to win three UEFA Champions League titles and three Ballon d’Ors while at Bayern. That is almost a disrespectful bid.
Mane, like Lewandowski, has one year left on his deal. Sure, the Poland international has banged in goals for fun and has regularly been their top-scorer since moving from Borussia Dortmund.
But Mane’s age, fitness, and proven track record on big occasions make him a very, very valuable asset for any team. He is as important to us as Lewa is for Bayern.
At least that’s what most Liverpool fans will tell you. The Reds apparently expect Bayern to come to their senses and bid £42m, which could very well see Mane end his six-year-long association on Merseyside.
There was always going to be a time when the former Southampton star would need to be replaced. Our fans, however, wouldn’t have expected it to come so quickly. Perhaps the Reds potentially signing Darwin Nunez can make up for a megastar in Mane leaving Anfield.
