Liverpool to seal the blockbuster signing of prolific South American ace

Liverpool to seal the signing of Darwin Nunez after agreeing on the transfer with Benfica

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Liverpool FC look to be on the verge of acquiring Darwin Nunez

after reaching an agreement with Portuguese giants Benfica.

An oral agreement was reached during a Saturday morning meeting. The Uruguayan striker will shortly sign a five-year contract with the Reds. This should give the Merseysiders an out-and-out number 9 who can lead their line for years to come.

As it stands, Liverpool are set to pay an initial price of €80million, with a further €20 m

in incentive payments possible. The move is in no way cheap and represents a high-risk and high-reward situation.

It’s been a swift process for the Reds, and it’s nice to see that we’ve managed to get the 22-year-old on a five-year contract at Anfield, which will keep him at the club until he’s 27.

Now that the clubs have agreed and the player is satisfied with the arrangements, all that remains is for the paperwork and medicals to be completed. The Uruguayan will join the Reds very soon, and we’ve managed to fend off interest from a number of other teams in order to bring the 34-goal striker to Merseyside.

The addition of the Uruguayan to an already fearsome assault will give opponents enough to ponder about this season. Nunez is expected to take the position of Sadio Mane, who appears to be heading to Bayern Munich.

With both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino’s futures in doubt, Jurgen Klopp’s new era is beginning to take form. As a new Liverpool front three takes shape, Luis Diaz was the first to arrive.

Nunez, a rising talent in global soccer, pleased Klopp when Liverpool played Benfica (Nunez scored in both legs). His aggressiveness, precision finishing, and quickness makes him an ideal fit for the current Liverpool side, and he will complement Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah up top for the next season.

That is a very solid front line in the long run, and Diaz and Nunez are both ideal alternatives for Firmino and Mane in those roles for Liverpool. Liverpool will need a star successor for Salah, but the pair’s development might be enough to meet that demand.
