Speaking in an interview as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic warned Liverpool that they are looking at other targets apart from Sadio Mane.
The Senegalese winger has been linked with a move to the Bavarians in recent weeks. They have apparently lodged two unsuccessful bids, with the Reds holding out for a £42.75million offer.
But according to the Bayern chief, the German giants cannot bank on just one transfer when it comes to strengthening their attack. When asked whether Bayern are eyeing other players apart from Mane, he said:
“Of course, we can’t rely on one option to strengthen our attack. We must have several options. Generally speaking, we’re trying to strengthen our team. We’re working on several options in attack. The transfer market is not easy, it always depends on the financial possibilities of the club.”
There are both pros and cons if Mane stays at LFC this summer. He is yet to renew his deal with the Reds and is set to become a free agent next year.
If Liverpool are holding out for an improved bid for the Senegalese superstar, it indicates that the club has accepted that they can lose Mane this summer. And if their minds are made, it would then be a tricky situation if he remains unsold now.
After all, losing a player of Mane’s quality on a potential free transfer next year would be a nightmare situation. Amidst this, perhaps the Bayern chief wants to remind the Reds that the Bundesliga champions can walk away from the table if they want to.
With Fabrizio Romano claiming the Reds have already agreed on a deal to sign Darwin Nunez for a fee close to €100million including add-ons, surely an influx of cash can help our club balance the books this summer.
If Mane stays, it means we retain one of the most lethal forwards in world football for at least six months. But that could mean the club missing out on guaranteed cash for him this window.
