Transfer News: Fulham lead the race to sign Liverpool star Neco Williams
According to Football League World (h/t Liverpool.com), Fulham have placed themselves in the lead of this race to sign Liverpool star Neco Williams in the summer transfer window. A return to Craven Cottage could be on the cards since he was with them on loan in the previous season.
Williams is expected to leave this summer with his future seemingly looking likely to be away from Anfield ahead of the next season. The Cottagers are interested in signing permanently after his impressive loan spell with them in the 2021-22 campaign.
After all, the Welsh international did play a major role in helping Marco Silva’s side achieve their promotion into the Premier League. Williams had garnered two goals and assists each to his name from 14 matches in the Championship, having joined them back in January.
Best for Liverpool?
The 21-year-old’s potential sale would benefit all the parties involved, looking at the current circumstances. Silva’s team and Williams would reunite with each other, and both of them enjoyed great success in the short spell the youngster had with them.
As for the Reds, they are edging closer to signing Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay which means that he will probably be the backup option to Trent Alexander-Arnold. In such a case, there is no reason to keep hold of Williams beyond this summer.
Williams has attracted attention from other clubs as well, with Nottingham Forest being recently linked with a move for the full-back. That would certainly help with our case as it would give us the leeway to demand a solid price tag for the young prospect.

However, since Fulham are the frontrunners in securing Williams’ services, let’s hope to see a move being facilitated shortly. After all, that will certainly help in our attempt to sign Ramsay as the money raised from Williams’ sale can be used to assist in our approach.
The supporters will hope that the Merseysiders can raise a decent amount from Williams’ transfer soon enough. Whether that will happen or not, though, would need to be seen in the coming weeks.
