Transfer News: Liverpool target Yves Bissouma set to join Tottenham Hotspur
According to The Times (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Brighton for the transfer of Liverpool target Yves Bissouma.
The midfielder was born and raised in Mali, and he made his maiden journey into Europe in 2016 when he joined LOSC Lille. However, since joining Brighton & Hove Albion in July 2018, the player has established himself as one of the greatest midfielders in the Premier League.
In the previous four years, the 25-year-old has made 124 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring six goals and assisting three times. However, Bissouma’s contract arrangements have put Brighton in a debacle, since his term expires next year. Some of the Premier League’s major teams, notably Tottenham, took notice of the problem.
Arsenal and Liverpool were also in the race to sign the bright talent last summer, but eventually, no deal materialised and the Reds concluded their window by only signing Ibrahima Konate during the summer.
Now it is believed that Tottenham and Brighton & Hove Albion have agreed on a deal of about £25 million for Yves Bissouma. The Spurs are sure that personal terms would not be an issue, and the Mali international will undergo medical this week.
Our midfield has been a stumbling block for us this season. We have dropped key points in the Premier League as a result of this. Players who operate in the centre of the park have been inconsistent, which might indicate that we will need to reorganise our personnel soon.
Only Fabinho is capable of playing primarily as a defensive midfielder in our squad. There is presently no one in Liverpool who can match him or offer cover for him when necessary. Bissouma is a person who can meet this condition.

Despite his young age, the youngster has played in the Premier League before and has protected Brighton’s back line against some of the league’s best offensive teams. For someone of his potential, £25 Million appears to be a bargain.
Tottenham’s deal might turn into a huge blow for us in the future as our team has to face Bissouma in the years to come and he could inflict some serious damage to us. Our board should switch focus to other transfer targets as the Mali international seems off the reach.
