Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool star Sadio Mane set to depart for Bayern Munich

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg via Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano Bayern Munich is close to finalising the signing of Liverpool forward Sadio Mane.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool are expected to agree on a transfer fee deal today after the Bavarian giants reached a personal term agreement with Mane. According to Sky Sports via Twitter, the deal is worth £35.1 million. Bayern Munich might be on the verge of a big coup, especially given their ongoing spat with Robert Lewandowski.

Mane could be a perfect short-term alternative for Lewandowski. Despite the fact that he is not a natural number nine, the Senegalese international has impressed with his adaptability at Liverpool, where he has even played a central role under Jurgen Klopp.

Despite not being a regular centre-forward, the former Red Bull Salzburg sensation has scored goals in the Premier League for the sheer joy of it. The Liverpool winger adds pace and skill out wide, making him a great purchase for Bayern Munich ahead of the new season.

Mane has 120 goals for Liverpool since arriving from Southampton in 2016, winning six major trophies including the Premier League and Champions League titles. As a result of his outstanding season, he can be considered as one of the main contenders for the next Ballon d’Or.

Even though it would have been nice to watch Mane’s brilliance at Anfield for some more years, our team should respect the Senegalese players’ decision as he has given his all for this club throughout his 6-year tenure.

Liverpool might have done the right thing by selling the Senegalese winger, who had just one year left on his contract. He would be leaving with the respect he deserves and considering his desire for a new challenge, the Bayern move could turn into an absolute success for him.

Meanwhile, Liverpool brought in Darwin Nunez and the Uruguayan will now take Mane’s spot in the Reds’ attacking roster. The 22-year-old cost a lot to sign from SL Benfica and the Reds will hope the investment pays off in the future.

While Sadio Mane’s departure might be a big blow, Liverpool should be confident that their fresh generation of attackers, which includes Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez, can carry the torch for the years to come.
