Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano explains why Liverpool compromised with Bayern Munich for Sadio Mane
According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich had their third bid for Sadio Mane accepted by Liverpool because the winger asked to leave the club in a respectful manner.
The Bavarians had two bids rejected for the Senegalese star, as the Reds were apparently willing to hold out for £42.5million but the Bundesliga winners have had a bid worth £35.1million including add-ons accepted for the winger.
The former Southampton star is now set to depart Anfield for a potential fee that, if fulfilled, would pip what the Reds paid to the Saints for the player’s services back in 2016.
The player has, obviously, grown in that time and become one of the world’s very best. Now 30 and entering the last year of his LFC deal, perhaps our club did a good job raking in a respectable fee for him.
Mane off to Bayern
It still feels like a low amount for a player with Mane’s goal-scoring and fitness record in one of the most competitive top leagues in Europe, but with the ex-RB Salzburg star wanting a move away himself, perhaps that would have complicated things for us.
He leaves the club as a hero. Mane was arguably Jurgen Klopp’s first big-name signing on Merseyside and one that paved the way for other superstars to come in and lead the Reds to glory.
The club has done the right thing by letting him leave if that’s what he wanted this summer. He has given it his all for us in the last six years- no questions asked- and letting him join Bayern, even if it means that the Reds had to let him go for a little bit cheaper than they would have wanted to.
It is time for a new challenge in Germany, one Mane can revel in given the kind of dominance the Bavarians enjoy in their domestic competitions.

Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez’s arrivals from the Primeira Liga this year cushions a lot of the blow we would receive once Mane leaves. But the club must march on and with Klopp here for a few more years, it is time to build another front three that strikes fear into the heart of opposition defenders.
