Transfer News: Liverpool told massive price tag to sign Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella

According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport via SempreInter (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool still hold an interest in signing Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.

The dynamic Italian star has not expressed a desire to leave Inter, which is why his team will only listen to offers that touch €90million. He also extended his contract to 2026 just last year.

This puts the Serie A giants into a very strong position when it comes to deciding the 25-year-old star’s future, who was part of Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad that won the UEFA Euros last summer.

They also apparently want to avoid replacing the midfielder this summer, which is understandable. His passing abilities coupled with his disposition to help out his team in defence make him a quality midfielder.

Barella to LFC?

Given that he is settled well in an Inter side, playing in his native country, it is understandable if Barella doesn’t express an overt desire to leave his current team. They won the Serie A in the 2020/21 season and came close to defending their title in this campaign.

For the Reds, there won’t be a lot of midfielders better than Barella when it comes to finding their next big signing in the middle of the park. His age profile, experience, and ability to play as a number six as well as a number eight make him a smart addition for most teams in the world.

We failed to sign Aurelien Tchouameni this summer while a deal for Jude Bellingham looks unlikely to happen until at least next year. Amidst this, the Reds would be wise to maintain a shortlist of midfielders they want in the near future.
