Talks underway for Liverpool to seal bargain transfer for Otavio from FC Porto
According to Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias (h/t Liverpool Echo), talks are already underway for Liverpool signing FC Porto wideman Otavio.
The 27-year-old Portuguese star has been an important part of the Dragons’ first-team set-up for several seasons now. Just like our Alisson Becker, Otavio too played for Internacional before making his name in Europe.
And it seems the Reds are keen on adding the Portuguese international to their ranks ahead of next season. Liverpool have had a pleasant experience buying from Porto recently.
Luis Diaz joined LFC in a high-profile deal this January and has instantly become one of our best players- one that took over the left flank as Sadio Mane shifted to playing as a centre-forward towards the end of last season.
Liverpool must pounce on this bargain
Otavio has a £51million release clause but it is believed that the Primeira Liga behemoths could be willing to do business if an offer of around £38million arrives at their table.
Porto, two times Kings of Europe, are no small team. But it is evident that the Reds have a much better chance of competing for the UEFA Champions League trophy now, having made five UCL finals since Porto won the competition in 2004 under Jose Mourinho.
And the global reach of LFC is not up for debate. One of the biggest sports teams on planet Earth, Otavio would know what playing for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds can do for his career.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are two such examples- with the players becoming household names under the German’s guidance. It now remains to be seen if the Reds really do sign Otavio this summer and what plans they may have for him.
