Transfer News: Liverpool could battle Arsenal for ‘next Mesut Ozil’ Arda Guler
According to Turkish outlet Aksam via FourFourTwo (h/t the Express), Liverpool could battle Arsenal Arda Guler, the youngster who has been labelled as the ‘next Mesut Ozil’.
It is claimed that the Gunners have begun talks for a £25million move for the Fenerbahce starlet. He is only 17 but is already making waves in Turkish football, and has made his bow for Fener, playing in 16 games across all competitions last season.
He netted three goals and provided five assists during that time in a combined 373 minutes of action. Not bad at all for a teenager his age. Ozil is one of the best playmakers of our time.
If a player is dubbed as the next Mesut Ozil, the Gunners would surely take notice, given their affiliations with the former Real Madrid playmaker. Even though things didn’t end well between him and the Gunners, his talent is not up for debate.
What should LFC do?
Ozil, now 33, is himself at Fenerbahce and would be giving invaluable guidance to Guler at the Ulker Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. And it is good to know the Reds are linked with the youngster too.
17 is too early to say for sure if a player will be a guaranteed hit. But by that time, they display qualities that can catch the eyes of those on the lookout for the next big thing in football.
Such big labels can be hard to bear for young shoulders, but handling pressure and living up to expectations is very important in modern football- even for a 17-year-old.
The Gunners seem poised to fend off competition for Guler and it seems that they have taken the lead in this race. The Reds have signed their own attacking midfielder this summer in Fabio Carvalho, who has joined us from Fulham.
