Transfer News: Liverpool told Arda Guler price tag after making offers

As per Turkish outlet Aksam (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have been told it will take them a hefty £21.5million in transfer fees if they want to sign Arda Guler from Fenerbahce, who is touted as a ‘Mesut Ozil replacement’.

The Reds apparently ‘made transfer offers’ after which they were informed of the price tag for one of the biggest teenage prospects in Turkish football right now. Guler, just 17, is already making waves in the Turkish league.

He had several appearances for Fener last season and won over Ismail Kartal in particular, going by the trust he placed in the youngster. Guler plays in the same team and in the same position as the great Mesut Ozil.

The former Arsenal and Real Madrid man is a bit of an icon in Fenerbahce after his move from the Emirates, and Guler is tipped to succeed him there. That is, if he stays at the club in the near future.

What next for Guler and LFC?

With interest from clubs like LFC and Arsenal, it could be hard for him to resist the temptation of flying over to England and rubbing shoulders with some of the greatest teammates and opponents in world football.

Then again, it could be a risky call for all parties if Guler takes such a big step at his young age. He is slowly getting more playing time at this current club and developing at a good pace.

Of course, it would benefit the Reds to have a player of his ilk in their team but at 17, it would be hard to see him getting a lot of playing time right now. Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are next in line to play an important part in our first-team set-up.

And the Reds only signed Fabio Carvalho, another attacking midfielder, this summer for Fulham. Given that we paid just £7.7million in combined fees for the Portuguese- who has knowledge of English football- Guler’s price tag would surely seem steep to some.
