Liverpool sensation remains optimistic despite disappointing debut against Man United

Liverpool new signing Fabio Carvalho felt bittersweet following debut loss to Manchester United

While speaking in a post-match interview with LFC TV as quoted by the Mirror, Fabio Carvalho acknowledged that making his Liverpool debut in the unexpected 4-0 loss to ferocious rivals Manchester United in Bangkok was ‘bittersweet.’

The Fulham summer signing started the match and struck the post for Jurgen Klopp’s team in the opening pre-season friendly. He showed moments of excellence in a clash where the Reds came up short in the final third.

Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial, and Facundo Pellestri scored for United, who secured a promising victory for new manager Erik ten Hag.

After the game, Carvalho promised the Liverpool TV station that they would soon respond to the opposition. It is a strong response by a player who could prove to be a pivotal cog in Jurgen Klopp’s side in the coming years.

“We have a winning mentality that starts in training and we want to win at any cost. Today is bittersweet for me as it’s not nice to get beat, especially in the way we did against United.”

The Portuguese youngster also suggested he would try to do much better in the next game and even promised a goal. Given that we take on his former side Fulham in our Premier League opener, the stage might be set for Carvalho to make a competitive debut to remember.

“We’ll make sure we correct our mistakes and put it right in the next game. Next game I’m sure I’ll score, that’s the mentality you’ve got to have.”

When Liverpool plays Crystal Palace in a Premier League match on Friday in Singapore, Carvalho will have a chance to make amends and impress as he seeks to secure a spot in Klopp’s first-team setup.

Carvalho is probably a player for the future because he will likely start his Liverpool career behind players like Nunez and Luis Diaz. Even though this was the Portuguese star’s first official post-game interview as a Liverpool player, he came across as confident and excited about the future.

Carvalho offers Klopp a flexible option because he is a versatile player who can operate as a left-winger, offensive midfielder, or centre midfielder. Liverpool must replace its ageing midfield core, but it already appears to be doing so.

Even though he didn’t get the opportunity to do much, his playing style in the first game demonstrates maturity. The young Portuguese prodigy has the potential to excel at the highest level, and given Liverpool’s first-rate facilities and coaching staff, he might do so soon.
